The Shimla ice-skating rink has the largest open-air area with naturally frozen ice. Ice-skating begins in early December and carries on to February. Two sessions of skating is organized every day depending upon the frozen ice. The hanging balloon on the Shimla Municipal Building near scandal point works as signal as to whether skating is going to held on that day or not. Membership is available for the entire season or single sessions.
